This weekend both the first and second teams lost for the first time. Both lost the toss on slow, wet pitches and were put in to bat. Fortunately the 3rds managed a terrific winning-draw despite being 0-3 at one stage. On Sunday the 2nds got back to winning ways with a maximum points win at Little Eaton to extend their lead at the top of 4N to 29 points. The first team went out of the National Knockout in an unbelievable game with Yorkshire League champions, York. York made 260 from their 45 overs and we finished 1 run short in an epic chase. Following the annual dinner and the AGM in the past two weeks, the club would like to welcome three new players to the club for next season. Kevin Leatherday joins from Ilkeston Rutland having been one of the leading run scorers in the Premier League last season. Ed Jones, a fast-bowler from Leek with a summer contract for Derbyshire has bolstered the bowling attack. Finally Luke Thomas, a 21-year-old left-handed batsman has joined from Swarkestone, having enjoyed a prolific year in Division 1 in 2008.

The dinner was a great success as ever. Ross Whiteley became the first winner of the Bill Gladwin Shield for the most improved player in the club. Simon Lacey again scooped the 1st team player of the year award. Rob McCarroll won the 2nd team award having stood out as the outstanding batsman in a disappointing year for the 2nds. 14-year-old Sam West was the winner of the 3rd team prize following some wonderful performances including 130*, the highest score of anyone in the club this season.

16th September 2008

The season's averages for all three senior teams are now available on the averages page.

7th September 2008

The website's back up and running and on the day CCC secured the Derbyshire Premier League title in the most dramatic of last day finishes. Trailing Ockbrook by 19 point and Sandiacre by 15 prior to play, glory looked unlikely but after both their games were cancelled due to the weather, CCC knew 27 points would secure them their first Premier League title. Batting first in a game reduced to 37 overs a side we posted 161 mainly thanks to 45 from Hibby, 37* from Goffy and 27 from Bri. Knowing we had to bowl Ticknall out a fantastic display saw Lace pick up 5 wickets to finish top of the Premier League's wickets table, Bri take 2 to finish 4th and Cammy & Gus also chip in to snatch 27 points and the championship from under Ockbrook's nose!

7th July 2008

Bad weather again affected some of the league programme on Saturday and the 2s suffered as they didn't even travel to Ambergate. The 1s faired far better and moved up to third place, just 2 points behind second-placed Spondon, with a great win against Alfreton. The away side batted first and were cruising at 117/2 in a match reduced to 43 overs per side. Great bowling from Rossco (4-49) and Lace (3-29) saw them collapse to 156 all out. The run chase was never in doubt as Hibby (57) and Slats (55*) saw us home for the loss of just 3 wickets inside 40 overs.

The 3rds also managed a great win despite the weather. Three wickets each for Jordan and Gautham helped bowl out Shipley Hall for 165. Good performances from Mossy (39), Matt Davo (41) and Mick Davo (39*) saw them home in the last over for a great 22 points.

22nd June 2008

After poor weather decimated much of the Derbyshire Premier and County League's fixtures yesterday, including the 2nds and 3rds not bowling a ball, the 1st XI managed a fantastic result away at fourth-placed Lullington Park. Despite a slippery outfield the match got under way an hour late and was reduced to 41 overs a side. Despite losing the toss we managed a very creditable 217/8 off our allotment. 55 from skipper Hibby set the tone before Cammy hit a blistering 59* off just 31 balls to ensure 4 batting bonus points. An early wicket for Ross had Lullington rocking but a great partnership followed between Andy Goodwin (73) and Ahmed Amla (51) before Bri removed the latter with the first of his two wickets. The home side were always behind the rate and some big shots resulted in wickets being lost before eventually closing on 185/8. Three wickets each for Rossco and Lace led us to 17 points, comfortably the most achieved by any Premier Leauge side yesterday.

2nd June 2008

On Saturday the 1st XI lost batting second in the last over for the second week running. Playing at the County Ground, 3 wickets each for Bri (3-51) and Lace (3-55) helped restrict Quarndon to 203/9. A terrible start to the reply saw us reeling at 21/4 but 44 from Slats and 77 from Ross put us back into contention. Despite 30 from Drage we fell 12 short and were all out in the last over.

The 1s faired better as the two sides met again on Sunday in the cup. Tight bowling from all restricted Quarndon to 162/7 from 45 overs. In reply we always looked in control and 48* from Ross saw us home with 5 wickets and 15 balls remaining.

The 2nd team had a much depleted side on Saturday but still managed to bowl out Darley Dale for 101. Joey took 5-19 from 9 overs but everyone chipped in. In reply we only mustered 48 on a difficult track and fell to defeat by 53 runs. Sadly the problems continued into Sunday and the cup match at Clifton had to be conceded.

The 3rd team also slipped to defeat on Saturday despite posting a very respectable 164. A half century from Mick Davison and 33 from Stuart Baddeley were the main contributions. Wirksworth managed to knock the runs off for the loss of just 3 wickets to complete a miserable day for the club.

Both 1sts and 2nds had makeshift sides out on Saturday and both came away with very respectable losing draws against sides placed well in their respective leagues. The 1s restricted Ockbrook to 267/7 with Bri taking 4-59. We then slipped to 76-5 before great efforts from Ross (30), Lace (39) and Andy Mac (70) guided us to a comfortable 221/7.

The 2nds also bowled first away at Belper Meadows and with a very young side restricted the home side to 225/4. In reply we were up against the league's fastest (and most aggressive) bowler in Asad Ali but great knocks from Tim (65) and Robby Mac (55) saw us to a comfortable 177/7.

The 3rds slipped to defeat against Codnor after being bowled out for 110. The visitors knocked the runs off for the loss of just two wickets with a wicket each for Stuart Baddeley and Ratman!

The "1st" team also played in the Cockspur Cup against top of the Notts Premier League, Caythorpe, on Sunday. Despite featuring a massively weakened side with very few regular 1st teamers available we still managed a very respectable 193/7 off 45 overs. Andy Mac continued his good form with 73 and was ably supported by Deano with 33. Caythorpe reached their target with just 2 overs to spare. Andy Mac again chipped in with 3 wickets.

Double-header weekend!! The 1sts had a good result on Saturday with a winning draw at home to Dunstall. Simon Lacey starred with 55* followed by 5-30. Dunstall finished 13 short of our 203/8 with 7 wickets down. On Sunday they picked up 22 points with a great win at Ilkeston. Brian Gladwin's 3-58 restricted the home side to 222/6. 80 from skipper Alex Hibbert along with 47 from Ross Whiteley and 44 from Alan Gofton saw them home with 7 balls and 4 wickets to spare.

The 2nd team managed a good winning draw at Belper Amateurs on Saturday. On a slow wicket we managed 167/7 (R.McCarroll 33, Westwell 30). A good bowling and fielding display restricted the home side to 154/9 (A.McCarroll 3-39, Keshwala 3-26). Sunday's game saw a very young side secure a good losing draw with Denby. The visitors posted 225/6 with 2 wickets for Joe Cooper. A very good start saw us in command but several wickets resulted in us finishing on 187/4. Good batting performances came from Deano (57), Robbie Mac (46), Wesso (34) and Josh Rodgers (25*).

The 3rds lost a very close game with Langley Mill on Saturday by 2 wickets. Good performances came from Chris Fletcher (52), Matt Fletcher (2-15) and Jordan Fanshawe (2-23). Another good game on Sunday saw them lose by 5 wickets to Belper Meadows. Daniel Moss made 36 while there was a wicket each Julian Taylor, Stuart Baddeley, Sam West and Alex Davison.

6th May 2008

A mixed weekend for the club. The 1st XI suffered a 9 wicket defeat at home to A&B on Saturday. After making a competitive 224/7 (Camm 52, Gofton 44) the 1sts struggled with the ball and only took 1 wicket as Ant Woolley made 138* to see the visitors home. The 2nd XI had an equally disappointing result away at Wirksworth. After posting a respectable 175/4 (A.McCarroll 77, Slater 52) we looked in control as Sandy Moller and Minesh Keshwala each took 2 early wickets. Wirksworth rallied though and had Upal Indrasiri to thank for his unbeaten 77 to see them home with 5 wickets to spare. Fortunately the 3rd XI faired better in restricting Darley Dale 98/7 (Baddeley 3-31). They then knocked the runs off for the loss of just 3 wickets (Moss 27).

The 1st XI faired far better in the national cup on Sunday. After struggling at one point we posted a good 199/8 (Hibbert 77*, Gladwin 26*). Kegworth always struggled in reply and were bowled out for 142 after great spells from Simon Lacey (4-12) and Brian Gladwin (3-11 from 9). They will now travel to Caythorpe of the Notts Prem in round 2.

2nd May 2008

Anyone travelling down to Kegworth with the 1st XI on Sunday please note that traffic may be bad due to a race meeting at Donnington.

1st May 2008

Teams for the weekend have now been updated on the Team Selection page. Please check to confirm changes.

27th April 2008

A great start to the season yesterday saw both the first and second team pick up 22 points with good wins batting second.

The 1st team bowled Alfreton out for 143 with all the bowlers chipping in (Simon Lacey 3-37) . After falling to 14-3 at one stage in reply, 50 from skipper Alex Hibbert and 36* from Ross Whiteley saw them home with 7 overs and 3 wickets to spare.

The 2nd team restricted Ambergate to 181-7 at The Park with great economical efforts from James Taylor (1-46) and Dean Hopkinson (1-26). Sandy Moller bowled with good pace and was rewarded with 3 wickets. Minesh Keshwala also bowled very well on debut.

In reply we always looked in control and 57 from Simon Westwell put us firmly in the driving seat. Joe Cooper (32) and Tim Kirk (27*) helped knock the runs off with 2 overs and 4 wickets to spare.

The 3rd team's game with Shipley Hall was cancelled.

23rd April 2008

Sides for this weekend are now available on the Team Selection page. Note that line-ups are subject to change depending on the availability of Kevin Dean.

22nd April 2008

The website's back up and running for the new season. The 1st XI had a good work out last Saturday while falling to a 6 wicket defeat at home to Cuckney. Despite the wet conditions it was decided we would bat first to ensure everyone got a knock before the Premier League kicks off next weekend. Pete Camm put together a nice innings in the middle order and Michael Deane had a good day with some long handle in the first innings followed by an economical 2fer.

The website will remain updated frequently this summer and any queries or ideas should be sent to Joe Cooper at tykesmillers@hotmail.com.
